چکیده

We consider a Randall-Sundrum model in which the Standard Model fermions and gauge bosons correspond to bulk fields. We show how the observed charged fermion masses and CKM mixings can be explained, without introducing hierarchical Yukawa couplings. We then study the impact on the mass scales associated with nonrenormalizable operators responsible for proton decay, neutrino masses, and flavor changing neutral currents. Although mass scales as high as 1011 − 1012 GeV are in principle possible, dimensionless couplings of order 10−8 are still needed to adequately suppress proton decay. Large neutrino mixings seem to require new physics beyond the Standard Model. [email protected] [email protected]

Neutrino masses and mixings in non-factorizable geometry

We study bulk fermion fields in the localized gravity model with non-factorizable metric recently proposed by Randall and Sundrum, and Gogberashvili. In addition to a tower of weak-scale Kaluza–Klein states we find a zero mode for any value of the fundamental fermion mass, which can be localized on the “hidden” 3-brane in the Randall–Sundrum model. Identifying this mode with a right-handed neut...

Neutrino Physics with Small Extra Dimensions

We study neutrino physics in the context of the localized gravity model with nonfactorizable metric proposed by Randall and Sundrum. Identifying the right-handed neutrino with a bulk fermion zero mode, which can be localized on the “hidden” 3-brane in the Randall–Sundrum model, we obtain naturally small Dirac neutrino masses without invoking a see-saw mechanism. Our model predicts a strong hier...

Fermion mixings vs d = 6 proton decay

It is well known, although sometimes ignored, that not only the d = 5 but also d = 6 proton decay depends on fermion mixings. In general we study carefully the dependence of d = 6 decay on fermion mixings using the effective operator approach. We find that without specifying a theory it is impossible to make clear predictions. Even in a given model, it is often not possible to determine all the...

Theories in More than Four Dimensions ∗

Particle physics models where there are large hidden extra dimensions are currently on the focus of an intense activity. The main reason is that these large extra dimensions may come with a TeV scale for quantum gravity (or string theory) which leads to a plethora of new observable phenomena in colliders as well in other areas of particle physics. Those new dimensions could be as large as milli...

A Solution of the Randall-Sundrum Model and the Mass Hierarchy Problem

Abstract A solution of the Randall-Sundrum model for a simplified case (one wall) is obtained. It is given by the 1/k-expansion (thin wall expansion) where 1/k is the thickness of the domain wall. The vacuum setting is done by the 5D Higgs potential and the solution is for a family of the Higgs parameters. The mass hierarchy problem is examined. Some physical quantities in 4D world such as the ...
